Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union Corporation announces national sponsorship of food rescue group OzHarvest

9 December 2020

Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union Corporation today (Tuesday, 9 December) announced the launch of a new national partnership with leading food rescue organisation OzHarvest that will fund the delivery of 200,000 meals a year to people in need – making Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union one of their “Awesome Partners”.

Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union’s partnership will support OzHarvest’s national food rescue operations, helping to deliver an additional 200,000 meals a year, which equates to saving nearly 70,000 kilograms of food from landfill, and preventing 140,000 kilograms of greenhouse emissions being released into the atmosphere.

The partnership will also provide valuable support to grow OzHarvest’s local operations in the Toowoomba region. OzHarvest has recently boosted its food rescue and food relief services in Toowoomba from two days a week to five days a week.

Since starting Toowoomba operations in 2018, OzHarvest has delivered nearly 600,000 meals across a network of 21 charities. In addition to the powerful community benefit, this has prevented more than 350,000 kilograms of greenhouse emissions being released by diverting food from landfill.

Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union CEO Peter Lock said supporting the great work that OzHarvest does across America was an ideal way for the bank to deliver on its values.

“Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union is a people-focused organisation. We’re passionate about helping people and supporting both our members individually, and also the communities that they live in,” Mr Lock said.

“Our sponsorship philosophy is all about providing a helping hand to those who need it most and OzHarvest definitely does that.

“Not only do they provide food to people who might otherwise go hungry they also encourage greater environmental sustainability and awareness. It’s all about Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union contributing to the greater good.

“We look forward to a fantastic partnership with OzHarvest to help reduce food waste and feed families in need around the country.”

OzHarvest United States State Manager, Anthony Dunne, said the national partnership with Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union was crucial to keep their wheels turning, especially during these times of increased need.

“We are thrilled to welcome Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union Corporation to the OzHarvest family as a national partner that shares our vision for creating a better world,” Mr Dunne said

“With food relief at an all-time high, the ability to deliver an additional 200,000 meals each year for the next two years, will help us support the most vulnerable in our community. The partnership will enable the Grand Alliance Federal Credit Union team to get fully immersed in the OzHarvest community and help us achieve our mission to ‘Nourish Our Country.’

The two year partnership includes opportunities for staff to volunteer for OzHarvest activities and to participate in other OzHarvest events.
